Wake up at 7:22, laze around until 7:30, and then get destroyed twice at UNO. I'd rather go wash the dishes and make breakfast.

The K's are catching up on their well-deserved sleep today and at half past nine there is the usual breakfast: prosciutto, salame, caffè.

Marching orders for today: hang around in the morning, try out the restaurants at lunchtime and only go to the beach at 4 to avoid the risk of sunburn.

So we head straight for the "Adriatico" and notice that there is a certain Hanseatic influence. The waiter is a direct import and speaks almost less Italian than we do, and every second dish comes with patate (potatoes, potatoes, pears, earthen chestnuts, or Eadkeschtn). The squid is tough and bland, but at least the coffee and grappa are excellent.

In the afternoon on the beach, hermit crabs are caught (and released), crabs are recovered - with sand and without sand - (and released), dead jellyfish are found (and released), and of course the mussel hunting continues.

In the evening I go back to the supermarket and then cook a fennel risotto. Lisa's verdict right at the start of the meal is devastating: "I don't like that." Ella agrees, but it does taste good. And there is far too much of it.

A little early, but never too late, Christian also receives our birthday present: Osterie d'Italia 2011/2012 and apple jam - homemade by Petra.

So it was off to bed and then some deep conversations with Christian on the balcony and an explanation of the history of reggae. Then it was off to bed a little after midnight.
