Valldemossa – A Gem in the Mountains of Mallorca

After yesterday's relaxing at-sea day, our cruise route was slowly coming to an end. On October 19, 2025, some guests said goodbye to the tour while new passengers boarded in Palma (Spain), berth P181 terminal 6. Today, I traveled from Palma to the charming mountain village of Valldemossa – a true treasure of Mallorca.

Valldemossa is idyllically situated in the Tramuntana mountains in the west of the island, surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees, and pines. The village is especially famous for its Carthusian monastery, where the composer Frédéric Chopin spent the winter of 1838/39 with the writer George Sand. Narrow, cobbled streets, colorful flower boxes at the windows, and traditional stone houses give the place a unique atmosphere.

Culinary-wise, Valldemossa also has a lot to offer. The Coca de Patata – sweet potato bread – and freshly baked Ensaimadas, a typical Mallorcan pastry that goes perfectly with coffee, are highly recommended. Local olives, cheese, and wines are also worth trying.

Our excursion was accompanied by a German guide who has lived in Mallorca for over 41 years. With humor, lively anecdotes, and a wealth of island knowledge, he made the tour an unforgettable experience. Every little story, every explanation about traditions and landscapes stuck with us – one could say, you can feel the guide's love for this island in every sentence.

Valldemossa is a place that beautifully combines history, culture, and enjoyment – perfect for a day trip from Palma.

Unfortunately, the lunch break was not long enough to visit Ballermann – just 20 minutes from the port, and it’s hard to find a cheaper way to get there. :D
