6.7.2024 Villefranche
Today I boarded the shuttle boat after 9am and disembarked at the port. I hadn't really found anything in Villefranche or Nice that I really wanted to see, but a Tour Saint-François and an Art Deco castle elevator (Ascenseur du Château) sounded good. The one-way trip should be just over four kilometres, and I could take a vehicle for the return trip.
So I set off, using Google Maps as my guide. I climbed steep streets that left me gasping for breath. Then I found myself in front of a staircase that seemed to lead to heaven. I thought back to my last bad experience with a similar staircase, but tackled the problem anyway.
With a few breaks I managed to climb the stairs, but I was pretty exhausted. When it started to rain, I had had enough and started the journey back. Not via the stairs, but down steep streets. I had a look around the city's shopping district, then returned to the ship before 12 noon.
In my bed I found a "bed bunny" made of towels that had been folded by my new cabin steward. Very nicely done!
After lunch, I took a nap. In the afternoon, I listened to live music again and chatted with Americans and Canadians.
After dinner I ended the day.
