Langkawi is a large island on the west coast of Malaysia. The island is equally popular among foreign tourists and locals.Because the roads on the island are largely well-developed, I rented a scooter for a day and explored the island.
The most famous attractions in Langkawi are the cable car and the Sky Bridge.
The cable car is one of the steepest in the world and the ride up or down takes about 15 min. Once you reach the top, you have a view of the island.
On the mountain, not far from the cable car, is the Sky Bridge, a curved pedestrian bridge.
From Oriental Village, where the cable car is located, I drove to the northeast of the island to Pantai Tanjung Rhu - which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
The last place of my exploration tour was the Durian Perangin Waterfall. After paying a small entrance fee, I went up the mountain to the waterfall. The waterfall flows into a small basin, creating a natural swimming pool. You can cool off in the knee-high water. But be careful when entering, the stones at the edge are slippery. I slipped and almost landed in the water with my camera - because I didn't want to swim, just take some nice pictures.
The facility around the waterfall is located in the jungle and is well done.
The time in Langkawi was a great end to my trip through Malaysia. The country has a lot to offer in terms of landscape and I liked that.
However, I didn't really like the Malaysian cuisine. It is influenced by different cultures like Indian and Chinese. I tried some things and was often disappointed.
An example of this is the dessert Cendol. I love desserts, so I tried this dessert too. I didn't finish this dessert completely, and that rarely happens with me.
So what exactly is Cendol? Cendol consists of crushed ice, which is poured over with condensed milk (and syrup), and is garnished with beans, corn puree, and green rice flour jelly noodles. It tastes as it looks...
My journey continues to Singapore - more about that in my next blogs...
