At 07:00, it was time to say goodbye to family and friends. In high spirits, our group of 71 singers, Mr. Kammel, Mrs. Lohse, and Mrs. Demirhan made their way to Baden Airpark to catch the flight to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, at 13:00.
Although we were greeted with rain, which quickly faded into the background due to the very humid and warm climate, everyone was happy about the heat - it feels like being on vacation!
As soon as everyone had collected their suitcases, we were warmly welcomed by the students of Galabov Gymnasium. Each singer had already been assigned to a student in advance, with whom they would be staying for the next few days. The anticipation was clearly palpable from both sides, and everyone was excited to finally meet each other in person!
The contact with Galabov Gymnasium was established through Mr. Hepfer, who used to teach at our school, Schiller Gymnasium, until a few years ago and has been working at the German school for some time now.
From the airport, the paths diverged as everyone spent the rest of the day with their Bulgarian partner and their family. Most people strolled through the beautiful and bustling city center of Sofia. Fresh flowers and trees scent the air on every corner, and street performers can be found every few meters.
The first impressions of Bulgaria's capital and its residents were definitely impressive, and we felt very welcome in our host families!
