Dear followers,
We continue with Part 2 of our two and a half week vacation. After spending the first 10 days in California (see blog post Roadtrip California), we flew from there to Miami early Saturday morning at 7:30 AM. Another week of vacation was still ahead of us. But once again, we weren't traveling alone; we were with friends from home and from Mexico.
After about 5 hours of flight time and a 3-hour time difference, we landed in the afternoon at the Miami airport. There, we immediately met up with Sarah, Fabi, daughter Lia, and Sveni. That day, we just settled into our Airbnb and met the rest from Mexico (Simi, Edgar & daughter Paula) for dinner on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach.
Sunday was our first full day in Florida. We spent it enjoying a leisurely breakfast, a little sightseeing in Miami, and the afternoon at the beach in Miami Beach. After strolling along Ocean Drive in Miami Beach on Monday, we headed to Key Largo. We stayed for two nights in a fantastic Airbnb house, visited a state park, swam in a lagoon right by our Airbnb, and soaked up the Florida sun.
From Key Largo, we continued over the Seven Mile Bridge to Key West, stopping at Bahia Honda State Park to enjoy the sun. In Key West, we explored the city, of course visiting the southernmost point in the United States, went on a snorkeling and dolphin watching tour, and enjoyed the sunset in Key West. It was truly beautiful, but as expected, also very touristy.
From Key West, our journey continued with a stop at a turtle hospital before heading to Homestead. Not a well-known city, but it's great for an overnight stay to quickly visit the Everglades and Biscayne National Park in the following days. Here again, we had rented a fantastic house through Airbnb together.
On Friday, our second to last day of the trip, we visited the Everglades National Park and checked out an alligator farm. In fact, aside from the alligators at the farm, we also saw many alligators in the national park (both adults and young ones). On Saturday, we spent the day going on a boat tour through Biscayne National Park. During this tour, we learned a lot about the national park and saw some dolphins up close. After that, we headed back to Miami. We spent the afternoon in a mall until it was time for us to leave for the airport. This also meant one last goodbye for us. Saying goodbye is something that has always been difficult for us this year. Luckily, this time it was significantly easier because we'll see each other again in 4 weeks back home!
Overall, we can say it was another great road trip. Both national parks were very beautiful, and Miami and Key West were also fantastic to visit. The stop at the turtle hospital with a tour was definitely worth it and we can absolutely recommend it!
Once again: Sarah, Fabi, Sveni, Simi, Edgar & Lia & Paula, we had a wonderful vacation with you, and we were so happy to see you again. For us, it was never a given when friends and family visited, and it was always something special.
This time we can say with anticipation: See you soon in Germany or also: 'Nice here, but have you ever been to Baden-Württemberg?!'
