The night at the winery was quiet, but I didn't sleep very well. Maybe it was because there was a rustling noise in the field behind us or a bang in the middle of the night when our mosquito bite healer decided to fall out of its holder.
At breakfast we decided that we weren't going to Florence, we'd do that another time, we were going to San Gimignano and since that wasn't far from the winery from last year, we immediately wrote an email and asked if there was anything available and hey presto, we were allowed to come. Great, the day is definitely secured and a great parking spot is in sight.
But first we had to get over this mountain range and the satnav was already showing that it would take more than 3 hours to travel 150km. We had reached an altitude of almost 1000m and quickly ended up on a diversion road. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster, up and then steeply down again. The road was just gravel, then bumpy again.
At some point the weather got bad, but then the motorway was in sight. Finally the motorway and we could drive a few meters. There we had to get used to the Italian driving style again. But that wasn't the problem - a Greek bus tried to push us off the road. But everything went well.
After that we were back on a route we knew towards Siena and wanted to visit San Gimignano, the city of twin towers. Finding a parking space was a mess. We then found a parking space a little outside and took the city bus into the city. The high walls, the small alleys and the view are simply wonderful. At around three we then drove towards Monti to end the evening in the beautiful winery with the delicious rosé wine, which I had already missed. The winery also has a pool, which we used straight away. It is almost fully booked and so we are here with 6 other motorhomes.
We already have a plan for tomorrow and, most importantly, a place for two days by the sea. The pitches are a bit more expensive this year, but they are also fantastically beautiful.
