Lisbon, Portugal

Apr 5-6

We only had a day and a half to properly explore Lisbon, so I'll need to go back at some point to give it real justice. I was also pretty much deathly hungover the entire time I was there, so I could argue that my mood was slightly altered while experiencing the city.

On my one full day, our bus arrived in the morning and I had lunch with my godfather and a few of his family members. We ate at a place called Canalha and it was insane, probably the best pork I've ever eaten in my life. We also finished five or six bottles of wine, plus a few other drinks during lunch, so after that my memory of the rest of the evening is a little hazy. I met up with the boys at the Time Out Market, then drunkenly annoyed Nolan and walked around Lisbon with him for the rest of the night.

The next day honestly almost broke me. It was pouring rain, I was dealing with a horrible hangover, and there was just a general sense of tiredness from travelling. It had been almost two weeks since I'd been back in Maastricht at that point, and I really needed a break. I can confidently say that this was the only time I actually got homesick during exchange, but days like these are important because they ground you and remind you that travelling can take a toll. Not every day is happiness, sunshine, and rainbows.

With a better mindset and maybe a couple less bottles of red, I'll be back to redeem myself in Lisbon at some point.
