'Fly to New Zealand, they said.'
'It's beautiful there, they said.'
'The weather is much better there than in Germany, they said.'
'It's perfect for fruit picking, they said.'
And now we're here, in the middle of a newly formed lake, where a family of ducks has already settled. It has been raining for weeks, the mood is low, as is the bank balance. There is no work to be done because it's canceled in this weather.
Since most of the campsites here are grassy areas, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a suitable place from which we can reach the toilets without getting wet. Unfortunately, we haven't bought a rubber boat yet, which we could otherwise paddle to the sanitary facilities. Therefore, most of them are partially on the road or somewhere else where you usually wouldn't be allowed to stand. It's good that our campsite is rather unknown and therefore not crowded, so there is enough space for everyone.
Our entertainment program is slowly coming to an end. We have finished watching all the seasons of 'Prison Break' and buying a new series to watch on our small DVD player would be too expensive. After all, we want to go to the South Island soon and not start working again right away, but first travel and explore something new.
The weather is annoying. If it's not raining, then.. Oh, what am I trying to do here, it's always raining. Constantly. It's terrible. This is by far the worst summer since.. the formation of the Earth maybe!?
Recently, we were even evacuated because Cyclone Cook hit New Zealand. There was a danger that the strong rain and wind would flood the coast. That's why we were all supposed to go to the city center. But even there, it wasn't safe. Huge trees were uprooted, roofs were destroyed, our van was shaking the whole time. It could be compared to the hurricane Kyrill, which raged in Germany a few years ago.
This is not how we imagined it. The excitement of the arrival has long turned into dissatisfaction. We can only hope that things will start going uphill soon.
To make matters worse, we also have to realize that things are not any better on the other side of the world. Although the weather is better there, politically speaking; mentioning Trump and Erdogan. Where is everything heading...
