When we arrived in our hotel room in Columbus on 11.04., it was raining heavily, with thunder and lightning. The April weather truly lived up to its name, because when we left for Detroit two hours later, the sun was already shining again.
This drive also went smoothly without much traffic.
Upon arrival in Detroit, we crossed the Detroit River to Windsor, Canada via an underground tunnel, as our hotel Caesars Hotel & Casino was located there.
On the day of arrival, we only stayed on the Canadian side and spent the evening comfortably in an Italian restaurant.
When we went to Detroit the next day, we decided to take the tunnel bus. This is a bus that runs every 30 minutes from Windsor to Detroit. We reached Detroit within 10 minutes and our sightseeing day could begin.
Based on our research on Detroit, we decided to stay only in downtown, as statistically, Detroit has the highest crime rate in the USA (robbery, possession of weapons and drugs, as well as murder). For these reasons, we wanted to avoid the suburbs of Detroit, especially the dangerous Eight Mile, which became known through the movie 8 Mile, starring the actor and rapper Eminem.
Downtown is not particularly big and can be explored on foot very well. We took the People Mover (a fully automated train that runs without a driver on the streets of Detroit) to the great baseball stadium Comerica Park and spontaneously decided to watch the baseball game Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins. We bought two tickets on the "black/gray market" and enjoyed our first baseball game in sunny weather. :-) After the Detroit Tigers won the game, we treated ourselves to an espresso at the unique coffee bar Roasting Plant.
In the evening, we took the tunnel bus back to the hotel.
On 13.04, we will continue to Chicago, where we will also return our great car.
