The sun was shining, it was very warm, and the beach was crowded. There were also some cyclists on this beach. Unfortunately, our search for a beach bar was unsuccessful. So we went back to our air-conditioned car and headed to Harbour Town, a small town on Hilton Head Island. Music reached our ears in the parking lot. However, we didn't pay much attention to this and instead looked for a place to get some food. Satisfied and full, we decided to follow the music and behold, it was a band that had set up their stage under a huge, shade-giving tree in the marina and was entertaining the numerous audience. The guys knew what they were doing. After they were cheered off the stage, we explored the marina, which was surrounded by souvenir shops and various eateries. Steffi spontaneously decided to climb the top of the lighthouse there, while Stefan, age-appropriately, waited on a bench in the shade and had a chat with an older local who was also waiting for his better half. Overall, we felt like we had significantly lowered the average age in Harbour Town.
After a good hour's drive, we reached our destination for the day, Beaufort. We checked into the motel and then drove to the historic core of the small town, which has about 13,500 inhabitants. Since it was Sunday, almost all shops were closed. The gastronomy was also very sparsely open. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy a delicious ice cream first before starting the culinary conclusion of the day with pizza baked in a wood-fired oven. We enjoyed the really delicious dough right by the water. Unfortunately, we found out afterwards that many scenes from Forrest Gump were filmed in Beaufort...Sunny greetings,
Steffi and Stefan
