March 01, 2022: Cascais, Cabo da Roca, Ericeira
F. Until the 14th century, it was believed that Cabo da Roca was the end of the world. Because Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of continental Europe. Beyond this point, there was only water and a few islands. Today, it is a popular tourist destination. Apart from a lighthouse and a border stone with engraved coordinates, there is not much here. It's all about being here and sharing it with the world (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube, Twitter, etc.). So:
Much more exciting were the powerful waves at the cliffs in Cascais. When a big wave hit the rocks, the water was thrown meters high into the air and the spray salted the entire surrounding air. It was totally fascinating to watch the waves repeatedly crashing against the rocks and covering them with foam.
After the two short trips to Cascais and Cabo da Roca, we went to Ericeira in the evening. Here we met with Jenny's cousin Alena, who is also in Portugal at the moment. During our walk through Ericeira, we encountered many people in costumes and realized that carnival is currently being celebrated around the world.
Day 137 - Total tour 9,018 km
