A Day in Lefkara

Pubblicato: 11.11.2021

The pictures really speak for themselves, but since I immediately fell in love with the small village of Lefkara, it's worth taking the time to write a few lines about our visit there.

When visiting Lefkara for the first time, you will come across the different names Pano Lefkara and Kato Lefkara. Pano means 'the upper' and Kato consequently means 'the lower', because due to its special location at the foot of the Troodos mountains, Lefkara is divided into two parts.

Lefkara is world famous for its handmade lace and delicate silverwork. It is even said that Leonardo da Vinci once visited the village and acquired an embroidered cloth.

And this is what our day looked like:

* an authentic Cypriot breakfast at Stafilaris (the best of its kind so far and an incredibly beautiful atmosphere - you couldn't have a better breakfast)

* a visit to the Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silverwork (a must for the first trip to Lefkara, admission is free)

* a tour of the Timios Stavros Church (you can do it, but you don't have to)

* a stroll through the many small, but beautiful streets of Lefkara

Attention: There is a risk of being chatted up and 'seduced' to buy their goods by the embroidery ladies (as I would like to affectionately call them). During our visit in the off season, it was bearable, but I can imagine that in summer, when hordes of tourists come here, they will be fighting for every buyer.

So far, Lefkara is the most beautiful spot in Cyprus for me, so green, so full of flowers and blossoms, so idyllic, so picturesque. And luckily only a half hour drive away...
