An experience of superlatives, even if it didn't spew lava that day.

The dimensions of the lava flows alone, which spread over several kilometers in all directions, are overwhelming.

To see a lava flow live and to feel the heat emanating from it is an experience I have never had before.

The journey to the crater takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the route you choose. I climbed over the mountains, which are partly quite steep, to reach the crater, as you have great views of the entire lava flows along the way, some of which have already cooled down and others still have underground streams beneath their cooled surface.

Even if the volcano is not active on the day you visit, meaning it doesn't emit lava, you should definitely see it. It's hard to comprehend the power that a relatively small volcano can unleash.
