Stage 06 Châtel-Saint-Denis, 21.9 Km (159.2Km)

Pubblicato: 26.03.2022

Highlight of the day: A road closed to traffic is a very special hiking trail.
After yesterday's monster tour, today was almost just a stroll. Still, it was nearly 22 km, a stage length that I had actually planned not to exceed.
After a peaceful night's sleep, I woke up early but had to wait to have breakfast. However, I enjoyed a quite extensive and good breakfast.
Therefore, I started my journey through Bulle around 8:30 am. I didn't see much of Bulle itself, but I think it's not as worth seeing as yesterday's Fribourg.
On the way in the middle of the city, there was suddenly a big construction site that was also closed to pedestrians. Since there was no detour indicated and I didn't see any possibility, it required a little exercise to climb over the barriers to the other side.
Today, there must have been a balloon event in the area because I saw some hot air balloons floating over Bulle. Since they were moving forward almost as slowly as I was and in the same direction, I could still see them until they landed.
From Bulle, you can see the Moléson quite well and even better from Vuadens, the first village after Bulle.
Although I have planned a long hike overall, I don't want to put up with additional hardships such as overcoming unnecessary altitude differences. That's why I didn't go over the hills as my hiking app Komoot actually suggested. Even though the path around was a bit longer, I had to overcome only a few meters of altitude.
The disadvantage was that I had to follow several kilometers of the main road. But often, there was the possibility to hike on the meadow next to the road. That's the great advantage of a hike in March when the vegetation hasn't started yet and the weather is so lovely and dry.
Have you noticed that I often take pictures of churches in the villages? They are simply the most impressive photo motifs in most villages. Today, I even visited a church in Semsales and took a photo from the inside.

Since I knew that today's stage is relatively easy and I already had more than half of the tour behind me, I took a long lunch break at the edge of a forest and enjoyed this wonderful spring day.
A few kilometers before reaching my destination, I was lucky that the road was closed to traffic for many kilometers due to construction work, so I had the whole road almost to myself until almost Châtel-Saint-Denis.

The house where I am staying is known for its good cheese fondue and the beautiful wood carvings on the walls.
