Today I left the Rocky Mountains behind. The closer I got to Calgary, the smaller the mountains became in the rearview mirror and the hotter it got. Today was by far the hottest day since I've been in Canada. When I arrived in Calgary, it was 29 degrees and even now in the evening it is still warm and I'm sitting on the balcony in a T-shirt. The drive to Calgary was smooth and it was only about 120 kilometers anyway. So a piece of cake compared to the usual distances I have covered here. Calgary is a city you don't have to see. The reason why I went further to Calgary is another one. I got a relatively cheap AirBnB apartment here, including a kitchen. After a long time of eating microwave meals or fast food, I wanted to cook in peace again and not share the apartment with anyone. That I can also check out the city is a nice side effect but not the main reason for my trip here :) So today at around 12:30 PM I arrived at my apartment for the next three nights. Check-in went smoothly and the first thing I did was cook myself a nice portion of pasta with pesto. I've been carrying both with me since Vancouver. The apartment looks a bit dated. The furniture is a bit old and when you sit on the leather couch, you feel like sinking to the floor. But that doesn't matter because the rest is perfectly adequate and the highlight is the view from the balcony. From there I can directly see downtown, which is on the other side of the river. Because of the location of my apartment on a hill, this is really a great view. At around 3:00 PM, I walked on foot over the pedestrian bridge into downtown and checked out Chinatown and the bustling Stephen Avenue. A pedestrian shopping street. After three hours of walking around Calgary, I was back at my accommodation and quickly went shopping with the car. Now I'm sitting on the balcony with a view of downtown, a cold Canadian beer, and my laptop, watching the sun slowly set. A really nice end to this hot day.
P.S: If you want to see how it looks from my balcony, I recommend my new video :)
