So here we come to my favorite part so far: A day with elephants!
I can't really put into words how fascinated I am by these animals.
Elephants have been mistreated and abused a lot in the past. They are such lovable animals and so similar to us humans. Elephants can cry and feel something like sadness when, for example, a member of their herd dies. Sometimes, while eating, they sway back and forth like in a trance, but no one knows why they do that. However, I have noticed some similarities to the phenomenon when someone wiggles their leg under the table while eating (Oliver?!). So somehow I believe that we underestimate how much feeling and similarity to us can be found in such an animal.
The power of elephants is breathtaking, even the little baby pushed me aside in no time. So they radiate a foundation. Something that is strong and constant, but lies in such calm and harmony that you can only marvel at it.
Over the years, the elephant populations have unfortunately declined enormously. The ladies in the pictures are already adults (44 and 16 years old), but an elephant carries its baby for a full 2 years, and only one at a time. So they have fallen victim to humans through poaching.
In the Dumbo Elephant Spa, we fed the elephants, took them for a walk, and later went swimming and mud wrestling with them. All of these were indescribable experiences that I will surely never forget.
