Early in the morning, I wake up the other campervans in the parking lot when I accidentally trigger the alarm system of my vehicle. (Activating the electric window lifter from inside the locked car is not recommended)

Outside it’s pouring rain. I fold down the back seat and cook oatmeal in the trunk. There’s a sign in front of the ranger hut predicting wind gusts of up to 120 km/h for today.

The weather improves and I start the hike uphill to the Mirador Ferrier. The path goes through forests with gnarled trees shaped by the wind and wetlands. The view of the mountain massif located behind the Grey Glacier becomes more fantastic with every meter gained in altitude.

On reaching the summit of Ferrier Hill, the wind forecast proves true. I am almost blown away and have to crouch on the ground - I’ve never experienced such strong wind. In the lee of a rock, I manage to take photos of the views of glaciers and mountains.

Once back down, I drive about 40 km on a bumpy road towards Los Cuernos (mountain range). Since the route is significantly less demanding, entire busloads of tourists waddle along the hiking trail. At a mountain lake below Los Cuernos, I set up my tripod and am suddenly surprised by a wet gust of wind that rushes across the lake. My backpack flies 5 meters away, and I can only protect my tripod and camera feebly with my jacket.

The oddly shaped and differently colored striped Los Cuernos surpass everything I have seen in mountain panoramas so far.

I spend the night at the ranger station Laguna Amarga next to an idyllic, mosquito-infested stream. After my evening trunk couscous, I put a few Coronas in to make the night in the passenger seat more comfortable.
