🇲🇾 Langkawi (7th stop on world trip)

Publié: 21.01.2023

We're back in Langkawi 🌴🍉🔆 The ferry from Kuala Perlis took us an hour to get to Langkawi (tip: always have something warm to wear close by, buses and ferries like to blast the air conditioning). To get to our accommodation in Pantai Chenang, we took a taxi. We stayed at Delima Beach Inn for 7 days, really nice place with a pool and friendly staff, and we were excited about a big room :) The location was great again! Located in the second row but super central and close to the beach. We found a beautiful spot on the beach where we had breakfast in the mornings, overlooking the sea 😊 we often used the mornings for a short run 🏃🏼 and for dinner we went to the popular food trucks (at the Cenang Beach Food Truck Area) at the end of the Pantai Chenang Walk towards the Underwater World. Here you can find delicious and affordable food and drinks, and the food truck owners are incredibly friendly.

Around the white sandy beach or along the Pantai Chenang Walk, there are many small souvenir shops, a lot of duty-free shops, restaurants, and supermarkets. Often, you'll be approached by vendors offering activities like banana boat rides, jet skiing, or parasailing. You can't miss the shops offering day trips like island hopping (we did it ourselves in 2020 and it was great 😅) or trips to the mangrove forests, for example. Of course, you can also rent a scooter to explore the island on your own. In 2020, we used it to visit a temple, find a secluded beach (Black Sand Beach), visit the harbor with the giant sea eagle (the landmark), the Oriental Village (we don't think it's worth it), and the nearby Seven Wells Waterfall (incredibly beautiful, highly recommended), which consists of the higher Telaga Tujuh Waterfall and the lower Air Terjun Waterfall. You can reach the former via about 600 steep steps, which wasn't easy, but the magnificent view makes up for it and we could even swim in the natural rock pools. What an experience, without having to pay an admission fee!

At Morac Adventure Park, Chris took a few laps on the go-kart track. Located near the airport.

Since we were on the island during the holidays, we noticed that there was a lot of activity in the evenings, especially during the sunset. During the day, it was never a problem, but when the sun disappeared, people came out of their hotels. We missed the evening, relaxed atmosphere that we knew from Pangkor Island, for example. Of course, and you have to be aware of that beforehand, Langkawi is the much more popular and well-known island here. There are plenty of stalls and a huge range of leisure activities. What we also missed was a shady spot on the beach. By the way: You can now even rent loungers and sun umbrellas on the beach. The 7 days were definitely enough for us.

We stayed in Langkawi until January 18 and thought about what to do next. We had seen everything we wanted to see on the west coast. (In 2020, we also spent a few days in the Cameron Highlands and in Kuala Lumpur). We were right on the border with Thailand on Langkawi and it only took the ferry 90 minutes to the next island, Koh Lipe. The decision was made! We're heading to Thailand 🥳

But we will come back, we definitely want to see Borneo in the east and the island of Tioman, where the season hasn't started yet unfortunately. Fortunately, we have all the time in the world.
