We arrived in Khao Lak, located on the west coast, after a 2.5-3 hour minivan ride from Krabi on 05.02.23. Luckily, we were the first ones to get off. It always takes some time to pick up the other guests at their hotels, and in Thailand, punctuality is not really a thing :)
Our accommodation was called Seabox.
We will always remember the most beautiful sunsets in Khao Lak. 🌅 What we didn't like that much was how touristy it was. Everything is geared towards the well-being of tourists. The prices are quite high! Sometimes even more expensive than on the islands. We went to a restaurant on my birthday 👩🏼 and Chris was more than disappointed with the quality of his burger. With prices like that, you would expect something different.
But we found a great place with fair prices for rice, noodle, and curry dishes. It was always delicious and quickly became our regular spot. We also rented bicycles for a day from a shop for 100 baht per person. We rode our bikes along the coast to the White Sand Beach and back. We covered a distance of 30 kilometers 😊 We also went running every day, and the weather during our stay was consistently sunny and hot. We treated ourselves to a Thai massage for 300 baht per person.
If you want to relax in a beautiful hotel during your vacation and not have to worry about anything, with a fantastic beach at your doorstep and amazing sunsets, Khao Lak is the place to be. We were in the Khuekkhak region, at Nang Thong Beach with the lighthouse. It wasn't too far from our accommodation to the beach, maybe 700 meters. In the town center, there is one shop after another, restaurant after restaurant, bar after bar, and hotel after hotel. Taxi drivers and owners of souvenir and clothing shops will approach you and ask if you want to have a look around. Many lure you with German-speaking consultants, and you also have the opportunity to book entire tours with a German guide. This wasn't our cup of tea, but if you specifically look for it, you will have a great time here. Renting a scooter is a good way to get out of the town and explore the nature and see some sights. In the neighboring town, for example, is the Tsunami Museum, which commemorates the natural disaster of 2004 with lots of information and pictures.
To continue our journey, we took the minivan 🚐 back to Krabi. We booked the same accommodation and stayed for another 4 nights. From Krabi, we took the local bus to Surat Thani on 14.02.
