Honduras

Publié: 17.03.2020

Three weeks ago, our time in Honduras began, when crossing the border was still uncomplicated...

First, diving on the Caribbean island of Utila was on the agenda. Due to a storm and Sandro's ear infection, this was only partially possible at first, but in the end we were still able to enjoy a few beautiful dives together. In addition to the beautiful reefs, there were also iguanas, hummingbirds, and caves to admire.

We continued with a 6-day tour in the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve, the largest remaining tropical rainforest in Central America. We saw many beautiful birds, toads, and crocodiles, but unfortunately the mammals did not want to show themselves. Even though it rained often despite the dry season (Welcome to the RAINFOREST), we enjoyed our hikes through mud and thickets.

The last planned stop was Copan Ruinas, a small city near the border of Guatemala. Here you can find the ruins of a Mayan city and a German brewery, which was unfortunately closed.

So, now the chaos begins. Due to the Corona virus, we cannot cross the border to Guatemala. Furthermore, all airports in Honduras are closed and there are no buses running either. We took a private shuttle to Tela and settled into an Airbnb. When shopping, we had to wait in line for two hours in front of the supermarket just to be allowed in, as only about 10 customers are allowed in the store at a time.

Let's see how things go in the next few days.
