Making landfall at the island of Gotland. It is located off the coast of Sweden and has about 24,000 inhabitants.
Our port of call is in Visby. It is the largest city on the island and is considered the best-preserved medieval capital, hence part of UNESCO's World Heritage. The old city wall has largely remained intact and surrounds the old town center of Visby.
Since we are not the only cruise ship, with the AIDAdiva docking in front of us, the two groups of passengers squeeze through Visby's narrow streets in the morning. In addition, various events take place in the small houses and barns on the same day. So, there is a lot going on in the streets – and it's not really pleasant.
Eventually, we manage to break free from the crowd and find peace in the small streets. Some Pippi Longstocking movies are said to have been filmed here. The small houses with their beautiful gardens and cobblestone streets provide the perfect backdrop.
