In Kyoto there used to be the Imperial Palace. It was closed, but we could enter the 'garden', which was more like a park in terms of size. There was a pond where huge koi fish, turtles, and even a heron lived. The animals were very friendly and were not bothered by our presence.
On the way to our next destination, we walked through some very straight streets to a purely vegan Japanese restaurant called 'M Cafe'. It was very delicious.
Afterwards, we visited Kyoto's old town, the district of 'Gion', and also went to a temple complex. There were also many tourists here, especially in the adjacent shopping street.
In the temple complex and in the side alleys, we were still able to find some tranquility. It seems that most tourists concentrate on the main streets. In total, we walked 16 km today, despite taking various subway and JR train rides. It's amazing how big Kyoto still is.
