Hello girls and boys!
Here are some impressions from our first stop, Cuba. It took a little longer because we were completely without internet and social media for 10 wonderful days :)
After our arrival in Varadero, we went straight to Matanzas in the hope of escaping the huge luxury hotel castles in Varadero. We succeeded and were warmly welcomed by a small Cuban family (Marisol, Omar, and two very small dogs). There is not much in Matanzas, but from the beginning we breathed in a good Cuban breeze (Rum).
The further journey was, as we now know, typically Cuban and a bit bumpy. After several attempts to leave Matanzas, we met two adventurous Canadians who spontaneously decided to share a collectivo (shared taxi) with us, and we rumbled to Playa Larga in a 1956 Ford.
During a relaxed day at the beach and a breathtaking coral reef, we met a young German couple with a rental car while looking for options for further travel. They were so nice to include us, including a night in Playa Girón with Pepillo, an incredibly kind but at the same time very hectic Cuban, to Cienfuegos.
In Cienfuegos, we took a day trip to the El Nicho waterfall, where we were able to refresh ourselves in the cold freshwater.
We spent the last few days in Havana. There, among other things, we learned a lot about the lives of the Cubans on a Free Walking Tour.
Finally, Lisa got a new travel haircut...
...and we visited a famous jazz club in Havana.
We have now arrived in Cancun, Mexico, and will enjoy a few days at the beach and look forward to the next adventures.
See you soon!
Lisa and Matthias
