'I have never been to New York...', we can no longer sing this song. Gerdi was already in the city three years ago, and today we took the train from Boston. The train ride was surprisingly relaxing and comfortable - and punctual too. The German railway could learn something from that!
Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, so we got very wet on our way from the subway to the hotel and had wet feet and heads for the rest of the day. After dropping off our luggage, we first walked to Grand Central Station, the main train station in New York. We actually arrived at Penn Station, a few blocks away in Manhattan. The famous train station hall was impressive, and we took a few minutes to observe the crowds streaming to the trains.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) was next on our list. Because of the bad weather, a visit to the museum seemed like a good idea :) On the way there, we passed by the Rockefeller Center and Radio Music Hall. However, in the MoMA, some of the most interesting paintings and works, including those by Klimt, Dali, and Warhol, were not visible due to renovations. Nevertheless, it was impressive to see Van Gogh's 'Starry Night', for example. After that, we went to Times Square - another must-visit spot in New York. Again, we encountered rain and thousands of people. But despite that, we enjoyed a stunning backdrop of lights, billboards, street performers, and a lot of traffic. The honking of cars and the constant sound of sirens are as ubiquitous here as the yellow taxis - as you would expect from countless movies. On the way back, we had some delicious Asian food, passed by Grand Central Station again, and took a look from the terrace of our hotel on the 27th floor.
Tomorrow, we hope for better weather because it's hard to admire the countless skyscrapers when it's raining and cloudy... They simply disappear into the gray clouds.
