In the morning we had booked a guided hike and wanted to explore nature on our own afterwards.
But in the morning, when we were just sitting down to a hearty breakfast to strengthen ourselves for our plans, there was an announcement from the captain: Unfortunately, an iceberg blocked the entrance to the harbor, so the tender boats could not dock.
Even as our departure time approached, there was no improvement in sight.
So we went for a few laps on deck and even saw a whale in the distance.
Just as we had ordered drinks in the bar, there was an announcement that locals had been able to push away the iceberg, so the way was clear again.
We set off and after waiting for a while for the tender boat, we finally landed.
The hiking groups were merged, so our local guide had 32 tourists behind him.
We hiked a lot uphill and in our opinion off the beaten path (even though the guide said it was a path to him).
In the end, we came to a bay from where we had a beautiful view of the ice fjords and numerous icebergs.
The weather was warm and sunny with a pleasant 16 degrees, so we stayed there for a moment and enjoyed the view before heading back to town.
From there, we set off directly for our next hike, which we did on our own.
Behind the cemetery, we had seen a sign for the 'Yellow Trail' the day before, which we now wanted to explore.
The path was well marked with yellow stones. But we could also look out over the water most of the time, so it was no problem to orient ourselves.
We hiked through a somewhat barren, rocky landscape.
Finally, the path went steeply uphill after the slope had been rather pleasant before.
At the top of the mountain, it was also very windy, but the view was worth it.
Actually, the yellow trail would have led down to a bay with a beach.
But since we didn't feel like swimming in Greenland temperatures anyway and didn't want to risk being late back to the ship, we turned around.
In the evening, we then left Ilimanaq and left the Disko Bay again.
