Palma, the day

Publicado: 02.06.2024

We had planned the first day in Palma for a little shopping trip. From the port we headed towards Parc de Sa Feixina in the direction of Av. de Jaume III. The shopping mile is said to be hard to find there. Along the street there are rows of well-known fashion labels, alternating with shoe shops and of course jewellery. Light cotton clothing, trousers, shirts, something light for everyday holiday wear. We found what we were looking for in the men's department of El Corte Inglés. I had overlooked one small thing, but a gentleman from the service department quickly and sensitively brought me back down to earth. Sizes over 3XL are not available here. On his mobile he showed us an address in Plaça d'Espanya, where there is a specialist for circus tents.

We made our way there and quickly got back on our old paths. A few years ago we were in Palma in November and our visit to the city started at exactly this square because we arrived there from Port Sóller on the Ferrocarril de Sóller.

We didn't find the shop, so we gradually made our way back, sat down in one or two cafés until we finally had a beer at Plaza La Lonja.

From there it was only a few meters to the RCNP and our Gustav.

We also had to plan the next few days as we wanted to take a short trip to Düsseldorf on the weekend of June 9th.

In the end, we decided to book in Palma until June 11th and to take one or two trips from the port, both by land and by water.

So on day 2 we brought the bikes onto the jetty and planned a shopping trip first. Google had given me some tips on where to eat well in the company of the locals. Carrefour had the best selection at the meat counter so far. We had used up our rump steaks by now, so we had to put some more in the fridge.

Equipped with all our saddlebags and backpack, we set off. Halfway through the route, we had a small discussion about the route, and we decided to continue on Heike's route. When we arrived at the market, the problem was solved. Heike had entered a Carrefour and so had I, there were just two different ones.

On the way back we let ourselves drift a bit and ended up at Santa Catalina, TAPAS Y PAELLAS, for a beer. Unplanned, we decided to have pizza, but the sight of the pizza at the next table quickly convinced us. We can recommend this place, as well as various places on the same street and in the entire district.

Back at Gustav we planned the next few days. Next we wanted to go to Port Sóller and, if our bikes' batteries would last, back again. Alternatively, there would be the Ferrocarril de Sóller, if we can take bikes there.

A few pictures are from our previous stay in Palma, it was November then and it rained now and then. The tapas restaurant OMBU, Passeig del Born is still there and we still have fond memories of it.
