Flying (letting), eating, flying, eating, flying, looking out the window... ah, below us is Greenland.... wow, how beautiful! Glaciers, ice, mountains, and endless snow. A breathtaking beauty beneath us, which we cross at almost 1000 km/h and an altitude of 12,000 meters. Greetings to Mr. Trump: No, there really is nothing for you to take here, and in winter it's dark for three months, and there's no McDonald's.
We both gaze down in awe and are speechless. We then have to secretly whisper critiques about Peter's seat neighbor. She’s one of those types: 'I'm here now, spreading out in all directions, and you can't get out of here.' Luckily, Anja wasn't sitting next to her. She's sometimes quite clumsy with drinks... We survived the 11 hours quite well and landed in Vancouver almost on time. The weather looks gloomy. The immigration formalities are done super quickly, customs registration in advance via app. We have never entered this quickly to our surprise. Did we miss something? Is Canada already part of the EU? Now comes the big surprise at the baggage claim. Did the bags make it from the check-in in Zurich the night before? And much more exciting, what about the bike boxes? Peter's bag arrives quite quickly, but Anja's takes a few more heart-poundingly suspenseful minutes. The bike boxes come on the oversized baggage carousel. Phew, they look intact at first glance. Heart rate goes back down. Another box arrives, and as the owner of this one introduces himself, it’s an acquaintance of Peter from the bike club Steffisburg, who is also racing. The world is quite small in Euro-Canada.
The shuttle bus takes us including boxes to the Radisson blu Airport & Marina Hotel in 20 minutes. You can immediately tell you’re in Canada. A ubiquitous thank you, sorry, and excuse me hangs in the air. Canadians seem to always be friendly and helpful and apologize for everything and anything. Amusing at first glance, but it creates a lovely atmosphere for us, and it’s not difficult to smile back and keep apologizing (not for breathing, but almost) and to say thank you.
The hotel is sufficient for our purposes, the bikes are sleeping in storage, and we soon after 7 PM as well. The time difference is 9 hours back compared to Bern.
