Sleeping in a real bed, taking a really hot shower, and having the toilet all to oneself - that's a kind of luxury that one does not have while camping, and it becomes truly apparent when staying in a hotel. However, we could still endure 'non-luxury' for a while longer. Today is our last day, and we talk a lot about the past few days. We have experienced 'luxury' in every form, starting with the wonderful weather that has always accompanied us, to the beautiful landscapes and animals we have explored and seen, the people we have met, and not to forget the testing of our own limits during the BC Bike Race - a clear transcendence of our luxury comfort zone.
We spent the last day, after a rainy start, in North Vancouver (at the harbor, there is a repurposed shipyard; a cultural, restaurant, and art scene) in Stanley Park, visiting the totem poles of the First Nation. The skyline is quite impressive from the other side. We walked the whole way back because suddenly the weather was so nice, and we were constantly fascinated by the amazing city, which, despite millions of people, is incredibly green and clean and exudes no hustle and bustle at all. At no point did we feel afraid and always felt safe. We can understand why people live here. The mountains in the background, the Pacific Ocean, and a constant friendliness surround this city. Yes, Vancouver has about everything that simply makes one happy. And the surroundings as well. So here we are, on this beautifully sunny and cool evening, very happy in the garden of the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown (a thoroughly Canadian restaurant).
Tomorrow afternoon, our flight to Zurich departs. At the hotel reception, we organized the airport shuttle due to the bike cartons. Here again, we have learned how valuable it is to communicate not with a machine, but from human to human. The shuttle bus is quite small, but they talk to the driver, ensure that they can do everything possible to get us and the bikes safely to the airport. We should not be afraid. No, we aren't! In the last few weeks, we have learned just how incredibly dedicated the people here are and that they want everything to work out for everyone. With this good feeling, we will sleep for the last time in Canada tonight, saying THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Thank you all for reading along and for your kind wishes! We will see each other - sooner or later, in Switzerland, in Canada, or somewhere on this beautiful Earth. ....bye bye....
