Take your time and you'll have some!

We leave our sleeping place and drive towards Havøysund. We immediately notice the 15 degree difference in temperature compared to the last few days, an ice-cold wind blows towards us, yes, unfortunately towards us. The road winds across another plateau. The clouds hang low, but this creates a wonderful atmosphere in the rugged landscape. Every now and then there are a few abandoned houses along the road. It doesn't take much to understand why the houses are abandoned. Anyone who can stand it here must have a tough shell, be able to endure loneliness, sea storms and months of darkness. This has little to do with romantic solitude. After just a few kilometers we see a few groups of reindeer to the left and right of the road. We stop to watch them. Really funny animals with their big feet and thin-looking legs. There are hardly any cars. We can drive side by side. The sun keeps breaking through the clouds and we are happy about every warm ray. We want to stop at Bakfjord for lunch. But when we see the small beach, we lose all appetite. There is rubbish washed up everywhere, mainly plastic, but not a little bit, in fact, everything is disgustingly full of fishing nets, cans, plastic bottles, shoes...
You can see it, but you can't believe it. This beautiful landscape has been ruined because some people simply have no respect for nature. If you're ever annoyed by the plastic caps on PET bottles, just look at the photo! It makes us angry, sad and thoughtful. We drive further along the coastal road and suddenly the sun comes out from behind the clouds, as if it wanted to do us some good after this terrible sight. We make good progress, but have to stop several times because a reindeer scurries across the road. After the last climb of the road and its final end, we cross a bridge into the village of Havøysund. It is a nice little village with lots of colorful houses, and a pier for the Hurtigruten ships. We booked a small holiday apartment here for two days, then found out that we had been upgraded to a larger apartment. Let's not say no and look forward to the comforts of a warm apartment with a great view of the village and the harbor. First we cook ourselves something really good and are happy with a can of beer. We stay here for two days to rest. Thanks to the great weather we have made better progress than planned. On Saturday morning we will take the Hurtigruten "MS POLARLYS" to the North Cape island in Honningsvåg and from there we will drive to the North Cape. This way we will avoid the over 7 km long North Cape Tunnel, which runs under the sea and is not particularly great for cyclists. But we still have time until then, so we'll take it and go hiking up a mountain without our bikes tomorrow and otherwise we will do laundry, look for cinnamon rolls and not spend the night in our sleeping bags and make sure we do everything we can to just do nothing....
