Week 24 - Keep working guys!

As the title suggests, this week was also focused on working. We managed a total of 58 hours this week. Our account balance is the happiest about this.

The work is still very boring. However, with podcasts or music, it becomes at least bearable. Conversations with others nearby also help pass the time. In the meantime, the supervisors sometimes don’t appreciate this. Even though we are not among the slowest people despite the conversations, we were separated from our chat partners once or twice this week and placed in another line to work.

During a workday, the Senior Supervisor (we have nicknamed him Big Mac) is particularly keen that everyone works diligently. Therefore, you can regularly hear him yelling across the plantation in wonderful English with an Indian accent: “Keep working guys!” Alternatively, he might say: “Hurry up!”, “Make use of both hands!”, or “Keep moving!”.

However, the best three words shouted are: “Smoko!” (15-minute break), “Lunch!” (lunch break), and of course “Hometime!” (end of the workday).

Rain was forecasted for Tuesday and no one was really motivated to work. Everyone wanted a free day without missing out on work time. Unfortunately, there was no sign of rain in the morning, so we started working at 7:30 AM. Luckily, at 10 AM we were relieved, and the raindrops were so heavy that work was called off.

We decided to go to a café with others and treat ourselves to breakfast. We could sit together comfortably and enjoy our free time. The rest of the day it rained heavily, and we were able to rest well.

On Thursday, Julian set off to go fishing. This time, a nice Kahawai was caught.

Meanwhile, Franzi was busy with grocery shopping. Since a small party at the house was planned for the weekend, alcohol was also on the shopping list. When Franzi was at the checkout with the 4.5% cider, she was asked for her ID. She was, of course, unprepared for this and was at least as surprised as she was flattered. Normally, you have to show your passport here, but the cashier accepted her ID for once.

On Friday, we decided to wind down the day at the beach after work. After dinner, we could still take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy the sunset. A welcome change from the otherwise very monotonous routine.

Since we also worked on Saturday and Sunday, there wasn't much else happening.

We are glad to have made it through the week. Let’s see how long we can and want to keep working; we will, of course, keep you updated.
