St. Nicholas Cathedral - 3 meters short of 100 meters

My 2nd day in Greifswald and I have to admit that I've never been to the cathedral. And that's odd, considering that I spent my most beautiful years here from 1967 to 1971 at Vulkanstrasse 17 and spent my holidays in the years after at Ernst Thälmann Ring 33a, and I was baptized here. So today I decided to climb the 'long Nicholas'.

A risky undertaking, considering that the tower has been knocked down twice in its history by storms. Once in 1515 due to a northwest storm and again in 1650 because of a west storm.

After that, the shape of the tower's spire was changed from pyramidal to onion-shaped to break the wind force during future storms. Similar approaches were taken with tower renovations in Stralsund, Hamburg, and Copenhagen.

I buy a ticket and ask how long the ascent takes. 🤔
