Altyn Emel National Park - Day 2

After a few cookies and a canned coffee for breakfast, we set out early on the second day towards the 'Singing Dune.' In the midst of the stony steppe of the national park rises a gigantic sand dune. How it got there remains a mystery. It has been named because under certain weather conditions, you can hear the sand 'singing.' The sound occurs when different layers of sand shift against each other. For a brief moment, I actually heard a howling sound on the ridge of the dune. Whether that was the famous singing remains unclear...

We spent most of the day again on the adventurous washboard paths of the national park, taking in the stunning landscape. In the early afternoon, we finally began our return journey to Almaty, with plenty of sand in our shoes and beautiful memories in our luggage.
