Due to Phnom Penh's location at the confluence of the Tonle Sap and the Mekong, a powerful waterway is created. There are bridges over individual arms of the river, complemented by ferries to the river islands. There are no bridges over the main river, the Mekong itself; it can only be crossed by boat.
Phnom Penh is growing on the western side of the Mekong; on the eastern shore, directly opposite the city, it transitions immediately into the lush, agricultural surroundings. This enhances the appeal of the city’s prominent skyline. Since we travel a lot by motorcycle, we often find ourselves crossing over: encounters, moments of pause that we greatly enjoy.
