Transport

A comprehensive public transportation system does not exist. Those who do not travel by their own bicycle, motorcycle, or car use the ubiquitous tuk-tuks or motorcycle rickshaws. As soon as you step onto the street, you hear from all directions: 'Tuk-tuk?' We gladly use them for our transfers with luggage.

As is common throughout Southeast Asia, it is frequent to see three or even more people riding on a moped. Or on a bicycle. Sometimes, we witness daring acts, such as a child securely fastened in front of the stomach. Would I trust the construction of the child seat attached to the moped...?

A special species that brings traffic to a standstill in Phnom Penh are the parent taxis. At lunchtime, traffic stands still in front of a school. However, parents are granted one thing here: to let a child venture into traffic alone.
