Koki Beach

We are visiting a popular weekend getaway: Koki Beach, a few kilometers south of Phnom Penh. Alone - where is the beach? The 'beach' consists of open, airy huts on stilts on either side of the river, where one can relax in hammocks in the shade.

It's better not to look too closely under the bridge. Unfortunately, like everywhere, plastic and other waste accumulate in the river and along the banks. The trash is carried out to sea by the rivers and often washed back onto the shores by wind and tides.

We arrive early in the morning at Koki Beach. The market is preparing for the upcoming rush from the city. I try some snails. The vendor doesn't lose her apparent displeasure, even though I am earnestly trying to pry the meat out of the snail shells. Anja is less enthusiastic about the snails.
