After spending two months in Sardinia, we have now traveled to Assisi in Umbria. We are here for three weeks at an English language school camp, helping with the preparations for the children's language courses. A few days ago, the first three teachers from California arrived, and the woman who founded the camp, “Humanites Spring,” is from New York. During the summer holidays, Italian children come for two-week English courses.
My task here is to write the book categories on the shelves in the library. Milo and Pola help with cooking and bake cookies every day. We are doing homeschooling here.
After lunch, we often go to the old town of Assisi. Saint Francis of Assisi, a monk who founded the Franciscan order, also comes from Assisi. He was born into a wealthy merchant family but gave up everything as an adult and lived in the woods. This is why there are many monasteries, churches, and other places of worship in Assisi. The churches also have many paintings from the late Middle Ages, such as those by Giotto. Giotto was an artist from the late Middle Ages who painted many frescoes. He painted at a time when there was no central perspective and tried to make his works look realistic and three-dimensional.
