After spending two months in Porto Ottiolu, we traveled to Alghero, on the west coast.

We are living here in Porto Ferro with a couple of beekeepers (Nettare di Nur Apicoltura) who produce Sardinian honey.

Our grandma also visited us here, and we spent a week with her in the center of Alghero. We went to the “Grotta di Nettuno” with her. The so-called Neptune's Cave is one of the largest stalactite caves in Italy and is over 2 million years old. We took a boat there, as the cave is located below cliffs and therefore hard to reach.

We also visited a Nuragic village and the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju with the Domus de Janas. The Domus de Janas (in Sardinian, houses of the fairies) are prehistoric (mostly underground) rock tombs from the Stone Age and Neolithic period. The Nuragic civilization followed in the Bronze Age. The Nuraghi built castle-like fortresses with towers on rocks to wage wars and protect their surrounding villages. They buried their dead in what are called giant tombs (Tombe dei Giganti). Such monuments can be found all over the island.

After our grandma left, we went to Emilio, a host who takes in helpers. Emilio has a house in Alghero and a piece of land 15 minutes from his house. He works as a photographer, and his hobby is beekeeping. At the same time, there was also a nineteen-year-old German from Hamburg there, with whom we got along well, a Dane, and another Italian. We took care of his chickens and quails and always cooked for everyone together. Usually, there were around 10-15 people, as friends and acquaintances always came to visit.

After spending a week at Emilio's, we decided to come back again because we liked it very much.
