To ensure my hiking shoes do not get bored, I have chosen an easy tour along the cliffs. We start in the dreamy, picturesque Buenavista del Norte. Here, the plaza in the village center first invites you for a small coffee break. A bit of cultural exploration at the beautiful church, and then we can get going.
Even though the sea looks completely calm far out, it crashes violently at the coast.
The vegetation here swings back and forth between lush and blooming or barren and dried up. Such English lawns are typically rather unusual. This one belongs to a golf course.
The roads are amazing. Extremely narrow serpentine curves that go on forever. It's exciting when the really big buses drive up and then there's oncoming traffic. I can definitely turn off the engine for five minutes until everyone gets sorted out again – until the next bend.
When I arrived yesterday afternoon in the blazing sun at the airport, I thought I had brought too many sweaters and first took off three layers. Today I am glad to have brought enough warm clothes. In no time, I'm back 500 meters higher and an icy wind is whistling. Evenings and nights are already quite chilly, and I am glad for a second wool blanket that I can lay over the thin bedspread.
