- back to BW

How quickly time passes when there are such beautiful things to discover. It’s not only about the weather but the whole experience of a journey. Friendly people are just as important as delicious unknown food; embarking on an adventure and simply enjoying everything.

I will definitely miss the morning view of the harbor including the cruise ships. It was often still dark when I opened the shutters, looking for the moon and the seagulls. The hotel gardeners were already active at 7:45 AM, trimming the climbing plants and feeding the fish – goldfish and koi. The pool was cleaned, the loungers were put back, and the ground was cleared of the last puddles and leaves. Some fellow travelers dared to go into the (not heated!) swimming pool at this time of day. A dove also came every morning to bathe and drink a little.

Breakfast on the last day in Funchal was again enjoyed with a view of the terrace. I skipped the egg burger (a small bun sliced open, a lettuce leaf, cucumber, tomato pieces, and a fried egg, all collected myself from the generous buffet); muesli with lots of fruit seemed to be the better choice. Along with a cup of hot water and then milk coffee and of course Pastei de Nata – best to have two pieces; who knows when I will get such delicious treats again.

I quickly said goodbye to the nice people from Leipzig and Emden; wished the travelers from Austria some nice days and then we were already ready for pickup to the airport. Luckily, the sun was shining while we waited some time for our shuttle bus.

The bus arrived well-filled and took a familiar route to the airport. There were really many people here as well.

And then, after one last delicious Bica, our journey to this beautiful island came to an end. I will take along memories of swordfish with banana, risotto with various seafood, Bolo do Caco, Poncha, friendly people, many unknown trees, dreamy landscapes, and so much more. It often happens that we are excited about previously unknown places; Madeira definitely belongs to that list. We would love to travel here again.

See you soon!
