Southern Sweden Tour - Day 5
Around 10:00, we set off. This time, Karlskrona is our destination.
We travel from the '9' to the '19' towards Kristianstad through beautiful landscapes.
Near Kristianstad, we continue on the E 22 towards Kalmar for quite a distance.
At the Karlskrona East exit, we leave the E 22 and drive about 6 km to Centrum before heading to our parking space in the trading harbor.
Karlskrona is a port city in the southern Swedish province of Blekinge län and the historical province of Blekinge. The city by the Baltic Sea is the main town of the same name and is known as a baroque city.
Karlskrona was founded in 1679 as a naval base by King Charles XI or Admiral Hans Wachtmeister.
The naval harbor of Karlskrona, with its former shipyards, fortifications, and select buildings in the city, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will explore the city tomorrow since we are staying for 2 nights. Today, we have just taken a short walk to stretch our legs.

During that, we passed the Trinity Church. It is a church built between 1697 and 1709 according to the plans of architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and is one of the most significant baroque churches in Sweden. The church is recognized as a World Heritage Site of the city.

We also saw the historic lighthouse Karlskrona Nedre. The lighthouse was built in 1918 and replaced an earlier lighthouse on the same site.
Otherwise, it is time to relax in the sun.
From our spot, we can see an old student boat. This served as accommodation for students, but has not been in use for a while and is quite run down. The city now wants to have it removed.
