Southern Sweden Tour - Day 21 and Day 22

Yesterday morning we left Stockholm. The city has its charm and many beautiful spots, but two days there were enough for us.

We decided to head to the Göta Canal and spend two peaceful days.

Our journey took us to a lovely campground right by the Göta Canal in Norsholm.

The Göta Canal was built between 1810 and 1832 and stretches from Mem on the Baltic Sea to Sjötorp at Lake Vänern. Together with the Trollhätte Canal, it connects Stockholm and Gothenburg through waterways, which is why it's called 'The Blue Ribbon of Sweden'.

The canal is 190 kilometers long, with 87 kilometers dug by hand. Overall, the canal has 58 locks. The initiator and builder was Baltzar von Platen, and the construction involved a total of 58,000 soldiers. In the 19th century, the Göta Canal was of great importance as a transport route for goods and passengers.

Today, the canal is one of Sweden's most famous tourist attractions.

We also saw one of the famous small cruise ships.

The Wilhelm Tham is a motor vessel that travels the Swedish Göta Canal on the route from Gothenburg to Stockholm and back. Built in 1912, it is the second oldest ship in the Göta Canal fleet after the Juno and has been classified as a historically valuable ship.

We certainly spent two beautiful and relaxing days, and to top it all off, we enjoyed a delicious meal.
