Part 10 - Final Part Japan 🇯🇵 Mishima, Departure and Conclusion

Arrival in Mishima

A few days ago, we changed our plans. Originally, we wanted to visit the snow monkeys in Nagano. However, since we had already observed them in Kyoto for a while, and the cold period when they sit in the onsen (hot springs) was over, we decided to rebook.

For our final stay in Japan, we took the Shinkansen at 8 AM from Hiroshima, traveled for 2 hours and 15 minutes to Nagoya, and after almost a two-hour stop, continued for another 1 hour and 40 minutes to Mishima.

Mishima is located on the Izu Peninsula, just an hour from Tokyo, at the foot of Mount Fuji. We hoped to see the majestic Fuji-san beautifully, and to enjoy two relaxing sunny final days by the sea.

Even on the train, we had a fantastic view of the completely cloud-free Fuji!

We arrived in Mishima at 2 PM and needed another 20 minutes to get to the hotel by train and on foot. We were able to see IT time and again and were absolutely thrilled.

Our hotel, the Numazu Riverside Hotel, is located in the eponymous district. We treated ourselves to a 4-star hotel for the last 2 nights at a price of €126 per night, and with a size of 23 m2, it was the largest room we had in Japan. Compared to our other hotels, it seemed super chic to us.

And then it was time. We were just settling into our room, sitting on a chair or the toilet, when our seat suddenly shifted slightly back and forth for about 10 seconds. I have to say, we always wanted to experience an earthquake and were somewhat disappointed. I have an app that shows the quakes, and it shows that the earth does shake often, but mostly so deep that you don't notice it. But this time it was noticeable.

Then we made our way out and felt more in the holiday mood. Everything felt so different, completely calm, by the sea, hardly any tourists. However, the path from the hotel to the harbor, where most of the activity was, was quite long and without any shops or restaurants. But there was always a fantastic view of Fuji no matter where you were.

We snacked a bit at the harbor and headed to the Numazu Port Observatory Water Gate. This is a tsunami evacuation building, and from up top, you once again have great views.

After that, we walked along a lovely long promenade, which was really nice and cozy, taking about a million photos…

…..and in the process, Markus accidentally captured the perfect Japan picture:

At sunset, we went once more to the tsunami building.

For dinner, we returned to the bustling district and found that it wasn't so lively after all, and almost everything was closed. Except luckily....Sushi. Here it became evident that almost only Japanese people were around, making it a bit harder to order. But the sushi was the most delicious ever.
