Arrival in the morning in Kobe with beautiful weather and warm temperatures above 10 degrees.
Kobe is an extremely important port for Southeast Asia and has a population of 1.5 million. The city shines with new splendor, following the devastating earthquake of 1995. Kobe, located in Hyogo Prefecture, in the Kansai region on Honshu Island, is also home to the world-famous Kobe Beef (from the Tajima breed).
We visit Himeji Castle in the city of the same name. The castle (also known as the Silver Heron Castle) is the only one that was never destroyed and is thus original as built between 1600-1609, making it unique in Japan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.
The castle, situated on a 230,000 m2 area, was built as a defense structure and was inhabited for over 269 years by 13 families across 48 generations. In modern times, it served as a backdrop and filming location for a number of famous films, including James Bond 007.
Meriken Park with the Port of Kobe Tower is a waterfront park on reclaimed land and also serves as a memorial to the victims of the 1995 earthquake.
