After seven days at sea, we arrive in the Cape Verde Islands in the morning.

The Cape Verde archipelago (Cabo Verde) belongs to the islands above the wind, has a total of about 600,000 inhabitants, and has been independent since 1975, formerly being a Portuguese colony.
The island of Sao Vicente, which covers 227 km2, is home to about 90% of the approximately 80,000 inhabitants living in the island's capital. The volcanic island is dominated by the 750-meter high Monte Verde and features well-known beach areas (Baia das Gates where the largest music festival in Africa takes place or Laghina Beach, for example). Sao Vicente is one of the driest islands of the archipelago, with its interior resembling a desert and having nearly no vegetation where irrigation (using desalted seawater) cannot be provided.
