Today I have a day off, don't ride a single meter with the bike, but take the public bus to Venice and back for 3,00€. Of course, I have my mascherina in the pannier, but I don't have it with me, the bus driver makes a big fuss. The passengers tell him to keep going, complain, but no, it's not possible. An Italian woman gives me a simple surgical mask and everything is fine. During the ride, I see many uncovered noses and chin aprons, outside of public transport, no one wears a mask anyway.
I am thrilled, the 18° and windy-rainy weather reminds me more of England than Rome, it's much more my optimal operating temperature. I walk around for a long time and let myself drift through the city, knowing that I don't have to go anywhere today. I enjoy watching the tourists trying to take selfies and the street vendors trying to sell them something. Even though there might be just as many tourists here as in Rome, today I can enjoy it: I walk through the narrow streets and over the bridges and I'm happy to be here.
Camping Serenissima, about 15€, today there is WLAN after all, pleasantly simple and peaceful place
