It was time to leave Santiago again. After preparing a few things yesterday, this morning it was just the trash and the water supply and disposal left.

The plan was clear, but today Gary, for the first time in a long while, wouldn’t start. After three unsuccessful attempts to start, Sebb opened the hood and got the starter spray. Now Ines sat in the driver’s seat and had to turn the ignition key while Sebb sprayed the starter liquid into the designated opening of the air intake. One attempt and the diesel ran, initially a bit shaky, but after ten seconds it was running smoothly. We were already familiar with the spray from our old Honda motorcycle, which also had starting issues in colder weather. However, it wasn't that cold yet, it was almost 20 degrees after all.

Now the car was running and we could finish our preparations and head out.

After about an hour, we were back at the sea. This time the parking spot was again right behind the dune, hardly a hundred meters from the water. We found a spot, paid, and first went to the sea.

Surfing was definitely possible here. The waves, now two hours after low tide, were already up to three meters high. While we initially observed the waves, several dozen people in wetsuits were having fun out in the sea.

We tested the water first without suits and it was cold, so cold that we only stayed briefly to splash around and quickly turned back to the beach. Unfortunately, Ines got stung on the foot by something; we hadn’t seen anything—a jellyfish, a plant, or an animal. When Sebb looked at the spot, he saw small, transparent stinging ends. Following the emergency manual’s recommendation, these were scraped off with a plastic card, and then the skin was rinsed with seawater. Later, an antihistamine would be applied.

We retreated to the beach for a while. When the water almost reached the ceiling, we packed up and went back. We wanted to play a little, use the yoga mat for training, and then have dinner.

Shortly after 8:00 PM, we took the camping chairs and went back to the beach to watch the sunset.
