When we looked out of the window in the morning, we could still see the wild rabbits on the campsite grounds. It was only when life on the campsite truly awoke that the long-eared ones disappeared, sleeping the day away in hiding.
For breakfast, we had our own version of crêpes; pancakes. 🥞 And since we were already baking, we prepared our meal for the evening as well. Tonight we would have khachapuri. Since this required a yeast dough, we had to start early, as the dough needed to rise properly in the current temperatures.
Then we hiked along the beach once again, this time towards Penthièvre and the isthmus that connected the Quiberon peninsula to the mainland. The cypress trees were emitting their characteristic scent, and only from a distance did one realize how enormous these trees could grow.
When Sebb noticed the fort of Penthièvre, he insisted on visiting the old fortress. Unfortunately, the historical buildings turned out to still be an active installation of the French military and were not open for visits. What a bummer!
So we simply hiked back along the beach to the north and returned to the campsite.
Since it was Saturday evening, the atmosphere at the campsite was particularly festive, and all the petanque courts were occupied. This game, part of the boule games, was the most popular activity and was played everywhere in the parks and also at the campsite.
After a lovely shower - we had to take advantage of it while we had it - the dough for the khachapuri was rolled out, filled with cheese, and baked in the pan, delicious, delicious.
