Fourth Day

On the fourth day, some of us started shortly after midnight and took a walk through the nighttime capital. Unfortunately, they did not take any navigation and had to ask local boys for help, who were playing football at the time.

In the morning, we had to leave the hostel, but we arranged to leave the car in a cool garage and walked through the city along the same route the boys took at night so that we could compare both experiences. The city center is full of sculptures of various sizes, but we were most impressed by the enormous 24-meter tall statue of Alexander the Great, which is a pride of the state, though its official name is just 'The Horse Rider' due to disputes with Greece.

Sunburned like peanuts from the Macedonian sun, we crawled to the chilled car, each grabbing a nicely chilled can from the fridge, and drove towards our next stop, the Matka Canyon. We didn’t stay in the car long, as the canyon is located right by Skopje.

After walking through the canyon, it was time to find a place to sleep, and we settled on Lake Ohrid, which runs along the border with Albania. After an active day full of walking, we enjoyed sausages and went to sleep relatively peacefully.
