Worth seeing
Orbetello
Orbetello, Italien
Attraction
Wildtier-Sanctuarium
bei Orbetello, Italien

Following the early bird motto, I set off towards the coast right after breakfast, without a real plan, thinking I’d take a look at Orbetello🤷‍♀️.

Great idea! Orbetello is located on a small peninsula in a lagoon, from here we can continue to Porto Santo Stefano and to the island of Giglio— it’s on the agenda for next year 💪. But I didn’t realize that Orbetello is such a nice town. Pitigliano yesterday was a bit melancholy, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the transience of life, but Orbetello is filled with laughter and ease, joy of life and new beginnings. Life pulses here, there’s a long shopping street with countless shops, cafés, restaurants, churches, side streets—and— no steps!!! Orbetello is flat, easily walkable and manageable. There are plenty of affordable parking spaces, well-developed pathways by the sea, and it’s really quiet and relaxed there, no hustle, just sun and the sound of waves—and—ah, I rested on a bench, the sun on my face, for a long while—without boredom☺️.

Recharged with a delicious burger and essential ice cream, I then slowly wandered through the countryside. I stopped at a sanctuary for wildlife, visited it, and was thrilled. Here, poorly kept animals from old zoos or private ownership are given a new home, and the people here do a fantastic job. The animals have huge areas available, nothing is locked up or kept small. You can feel the dedication and care of the people who have committed themselves to this task. For such a good place, I gladly pay the entrance fee.

That was the day, and it was very nice and surprising again.

Insight of the day: there are still good people doing good things!
